Microsoft calling an end to Windows 10 Support

by | Apr 14, 2025

Microsoft have stated, “After 14 October 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide free software updates via windows updates, technical assistance, or security fixes for Windows 10.”  Alongside this, Microsoft365 Apps will no longer be supported on Windows 10.  This will mean no updates for your office suite too, which will mean missing out on new features and functionality.
windows 11 upgrade

Do I have to upgrade ?

Short Answer: Yes, eventually everybody will have to upgrade.

Initially users won’t notice the need to upgrade their devices. However, with each update that Microsoft pushes, Windows 10 users will be missed out.  This might include new functionality and, potentially more importantly, security upgrades.

Devices running on old hardware will be required to get upgraded in order to meet Windows 11 requirements as those devices which don’t meet these requirements will run slower and be more prone to crashes.

To add, old systems historically become more and more vulnerable to cyber attacks and open up security risks in environments. When Windows 10 is out-of-support users will be missing out on security updates that protects users from viruses and malicious hackers.  An example of this was in 2017 when the virus “WannaCry” exploited a vulnerability in Windows XP, which had major implications for the NHS in particular, along with home and business users using the out of date software.

So what does this mean for businesses ?

Along with the security implications, there are also compliance standards, such as GDPR, HIPAA, or ISO certifications, which may require that organizations run software still supported by the vendor. Continuing to use Windows 10 post-2025 could put your business at legal and financial risk.

If your business has yet to upgrade to Windows 11 you may be missing out on the rich-features that come with the latest version. By upgrading you may find that productivity in the workplace improves and your devices run smoothly.

How do I check my device meets Windows 11 Requirements ?

Microsoft has made it easy to check your device’s compatibility. Here’s how:

  • Download the PC Health Check Tool from Microsoft’s official website.

  • Install and run the tool.

  • Click “Check now” to see if your PC meets the requirements for Windows 11.

If your device doesn’t meet the requirements, the tool will provide details on what’s missing – Motherboard processor or RAM, don’t worry we can advise.

Alternatively, you can manually compare your specs to Microsoft’s minimum system requirements for Windows 11 which include:

  • 64-bit processor with 1GHz or faster and 2+ cores

  • 4GB of RAM or more

  • 64GB storage or more

  • UEFI, Secure Boot capable

  • TPM version 2.0

  • DirectX 12 compatible graphics

We will be proactively talking about this with our customers, but in the meantime, if all this sounds too confusing, too much trouble, or you simply don’t know what to do, that’s what Full Circle IT Solutions Ltd are here for. give us a call on 01204 897824 to get in contact with one of our IT Technicians.
